Well yesterday was her big day, she, like most kids talks about her birthday ALL the time!
And on Tuesday night I said to her….when you wake up in the morning you will be four! She got this wondrous look on her face that is just priceless!
It has gone by way too fast for me and she is so excited to be “growing up”! She was sick Tuesday, she got home from being the special helper at her pre-school and doing her birthday there and just rapidly faded…..fever, the works…..when we got home so I was worried she’d be sick on her big day….. Well, mind over matter or whatever she woke up and felt a lot better, still coughing to beat the band but no fever.

I decided not to do a kiddy party this year, I just couldn’t get my head around it…. we decided to have just our family for dinner (she wants pizza!) and cake (a Cinderella cake of course!). My hubby took the day off work and he and I planned to take her to a place called “Hands on Art” to do something special and then go from there. It is a ceramic store and you can pick out something to paint, she picked a tile to paint and I picked a plate. Daddy helped her do rainbow colors on her tile and we did her hand-prints on my plate and we had her draw a picture of her dad and then he traced it and put it on her tile, we all had a great time. She loves to do artsy type things!
The weather was great, really a nice spring like day for a change! We went out for lunch and then to a cool kid’s bookstore. Then we picked up the cake, ice cream, and of course balloons! She picked them out and was just beaming…..sometimes it’s fun to just get them involved in the whole thing because they just eat it up!
We ended the afternoon just hanging out and letting her rest a bit….then we had pizza, cake and ice cream and of course presents…..all in all it was a great day! She came in the kitchen while the pizza was cooking and said “Thanks for my birthday mommy!” That was all I needed to end the day…..just lovely!
So, all this said, I think we have started a new tradition in our family…..no more traditional type parties I think (I think these days they just end up being too much! everyone always trying to do something to out-do last year or what their friend did etc.)….just doing some fun stuff that they want to do and it’s all good! Works for me…..and for them!
Cheers!
