09 Mar 2009 Everythings Amazing and Nobody’s Happy…..

Recently at church the Pastor showed this You Tube video about how Everything is Amazing and No-body’s Happy!  It is a clip from a late night talk show and I just laughed so hard it was so true!  He talks about how the current generation just doesn’t get how awesome the technology is and how far and how much the world has actually changed in the last 100 years……they have no concept!  They live in a “what’s in it for me?’ kind of mentality and have no appreciation for how much life has changed.  They want it all right now and if it takes an extra 30 seconds they are moaning and groaning about it.

We talk a lot about how technology has changed kids relationships with their friends and how they stress if they text someone and they don’t get an immediate response back. Back in the day we, like the guy in the video had a rotary phone and our friends maybe called or not….and if they did you had to respect the rules of using the phone at your house. I wasn’t allowed to just chat for hours…..you had to have a purpose for calling or being called and that was just how it was.

It’s a shame we can’t enjoy all the perks and be happy in how amazing everything is…..instead we just get more and more impatient and appreciate things less!  In fact, while amazing……I think  some technology takes our time rather than saving it.  We, like our parents before us (they probably thought we just didn’t get it either!!),  I guess are a little saddened that the generation of today missed out on all the pre-technology things in life…..radio shows, silent movies, black and white TV, 8 track tapes, vinyl albums, rotary phones (with no answering machine!), cooking the traditional way, in an oven or on the stove instead of a microwave are a few things I can think of…. This generation lacks a point of reference on how much things have changed.

Our economy is in crisis and maybe like this chap says, it’s time to get back to a simpler way of life.  We may in the end not have a choice.

Check out this video, it really made some good points I think……and it is really funny!

So, let me know what you think? Do you agree? or not?

Cheers!
Enjoy the day!

26 Feb 2009 I love how music can take you back…..

Thought for the day…..music, it’s really a wonderful thing, just putting on a song can take you back to a different time and place and make memories and moments in time come alive again. I love it, I love you tube as well because there is so much music out there at your fingertips!

rainy day 300x225 I love how music can take you back.....

This summer while visiting my sisters in Florida we happened to have a stormy rainy day and nothing on the agenda. It was during August which is storm season so you just aren’t guaranteed a day at the beach EVERY day!!

I was messing around checking my email and such on the computer then just asked my sistersme at the computer I love how music can take you back.....…..think of a song you haven’t heard in ages! And we were off and running, they hadn’t ever heard of You Tube and so it was even more fun, we listened to stuff that none of us had heard for a lonnnnnnnnnggggg time! :P

It was funny because I remember some of the music they used to listen to when I was a kid but there was a lot I missed somewhere a long the line, so I it was fun for me to hear the songs they listened to and then the stuff we all liked. After a while we just got on a roll remembering songs we all used to listen to growing up and things that had special memories attached that we had long since forgotten.

Our kids would call during the day to see what we were up to and just not get it! we had been transported to a different place and time and were just having a blast! The hours passed and we watched the rain and sang and danced to the songs of our youth, before we knew it kids and husbands were arriving home and wondering what was for dinner and what HAVE you guys been doing all day!dancing to you tube 300x225 I love how music can take you back.....

So, the next time you are feeling nostalgic or it’s just raining outside and you have nothing to do, take a trip down memory lane with your kids and share the music from your youth with them and have fun!

Cheers!
