30 Apr 2009 Simple, Inexpensive and Fun….

My daughter loves to play with “Play-doh” and  I have been waiting for the “Play-doh” from the store to run it’s course.  Finally it has happened, she had been mixing up all the colors and they had all dried out so the other day we decided to try and make our own Playdough.  This is something so easy, the kids can get involved and you probably have every ingredient in your house!  I won’t ever buy “Play-doh” again (it seems to dry out much faster than this!)

Here is the recipe we used:

Playdough Recipe

1 cup salt

2 cups flour

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

2 tablespoons oil

2 cups water

food coloring (or Kool-aid)

Combine first 4 ingredients, add very hot, boiling water and you color and mix until desired consistency is reached.  (It is very goopy to begin with and as it cools it sets up.)

We have had a lot of fun, it has a great texture and feels like I am getting something for FREE as I had all the ingredients.  She picked green as the color for this batch and when it wears out or dries out we will make another color.  I think next we are going to try and make Flubber!!!!!

Enjoy!
